Biography

Ainhoa López de Munain, born in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque Country), graduated from the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin, where she studied with mezzo-soprano Ewa Wolak and pianists Liana Vlad and Matthias Samuil. She also received advanced training from Wolfram Rieger and Peter Berne in Lied and Belcanto, respectively.

She has received awards at the “Ciudad de Logroño” International Singing Competition, the Corsica Lirica competition, and the Valleseco International Zarzuela Competition. In recent years, she has continued her development attending masterclasses led by internationally acclaimed artists such as Brigitte Fassbaender, Juliane Banse, Mariella Devia, Anna Samuil, Thomas Quasthoff, and Ulrich Messthaler.

She has participated in numerous concerts, performing highly relevant works from the classical repertoire, such as Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation Mass, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, as well as various cantatas by Bach and Telemann, among others. In the operatic field, she has sung roles such as Amore in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, Aurora in the world premiere of Huber’s opera Es ist über mich ein Wandel gekommen, Rosalia in Bernstein’s West Side Story, and Sophie in Zimmermann’s Weiße Rose.

She has worked with prestigious conductors such as Clark Rundell, Hans Graf, Diego Martin-Etxebarria, and Andoni Sierra, performing in important venues such as the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao, the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastián, the Teatro Principal in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Baluarte Auditorium in Pamplona, the Palace of Festivals of Cantabria, the Sanctuary of Arantzazu, the José Luis Perales Auditorium in Cuenca, the basilica of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, and the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.

She has also been invited to participate in prestigious festivals, including the Quincena Musical de San Sebastián, the Santander International Festival, and the Cuenca Religious Music Week. In 2023, she was awarded a scholarship by the Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander, and in 2024 she received the prestigious Bayreuth scholarship granted by the Wagner Association of Berlin. Among her upcoming engagements, her zarzuela debut stands out, performing the role of Rosaura in Guerrero’s Los Gavilanes.
